Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued No. 727 announcement, the “ Schistosoma Japonicum Antibody Test Strip”, a product developed by the Animal Schistosomiasis Team of SHVRI, CAAS, in collaboration with Qingdao Lijian Biotechnology Co., LTD, for the national Class I new veterinary drug registration certificate.
Schistosomiasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease, which is endemic in 12 provinces and cities that along the Yangtze River in the south of the People Republic of China. Domestic animals infected with Schistosoma japonicum are an important source of transmission of Schistosomiasis between humans and animals. In the twenty-first Century, the breeding industry in agricultural and rural area developed vigorously, and the task of schistosomiasis surveillance became more and more important. The traditional methods of detecting schistosomiasis in livestock, such as the egg hatching method, are heavy in workload and low in detection efficiency. The Schistosoma japonicum antibody test strip utilizes a purified Schistosoma japonicum egg soluble antigen as the detection antigen, offering high sensitivity and specificity. Labeled with recombinant G protein, the test strip could be used to detect a variety of domestic animals in the epidemic area without changing different labeled antibodies according to the species of domestic animals.
More importantly, the chromatographic strip is easy to use, allowing the results to be determined in 10 minutes. As a practical testing tool for agricultural schistosomiasis control, the product is conducive to large-scale screening and on-site timely monitoring, contributing to the development of schistosomiasis prevention work and the achievement of the goal of comprehensive elimination of schistosomiasis by 2030.
The product was funded by the Science and Technology Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the national key research and development Program.
