The Veterinary Drug Evaluation Center of SHVRI, CAAS, a non independent legal testing and diagnostic institution, was established in May 2017. Passed CMA metrology certification on May 31, 2019. In 2020, it was registered by the Shanghai Agriculture and Rural Committee and obtained the registration of the Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory (BSL-2) and the Animal Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory (ABSL-2) respectively. On September 8, 2022, the Veterinary Drug Evaluation Center was awarded a laboratory accreditation certificate by the National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) of China. The scope of testing capabilities for application recognition includes 34 testing items/parameters.
The current testing laboratory area of this center is about 400m2, and the animal laboratory area is about 3000m2. Staff members participate in relevant laboratory operation technology training, laboratory animal practitioner training, testing and diagnostic quality management training, laboratory accreditation training, qualification certification training for inspection and testing institutions, and laboratory internal auditor training, etc., with rich theoretical foundation and practical experience. This center is equipped with 150 sets of automatic nucleic acid extractor, fluorescent quantitative PCR, multifunctional microplate reader, ultrahigh speed centrifuge, gel imaging system, independent ventilation cage (IVC), pulsating high-pressure sterilization cabinet, biosafety cabinet, negative pressure dissection table, hydrogen peroxide disinfection machine and other instruments and equipment, which can provide animal serology detection and diagnosis, animal pathogen PCR detection and diagnosis, animal schistosomiasis detection and diagnosis Veterinary drug residue detection, vaccine safety and efficacy evaluation, and other services.

Our center accepts supervision and inspection from the Market Supervision Administration, veterinary administrative departments, certification and accreditation institutions, clients, and SHVRI CAAS. We adhere to the quality policy of "fair behavior, scientific management, excellent technology, and high-quality service" to ensure the authenticity, effectiveness, and accuracy of testing and diagnostic data. SHVRI has established independent committees for the welfare and ethical management of experimental animals, as well as a biosafety committee, to review, supervise, and manage the animal welfare, ethics, and biosafety throughout the entire process of animal testing at the center.
Our center will continue to improve the level of laboratory management, strengthen the ability of animal biosafety risk warning and prevention technology, provide common theories, public policies, and common technology research for "human disease and animal prevention, gateway advancement, and source control", and contribute to ensuring agricultural biosafety in China.
